|Frank and Rozi formed the most formidable coaching staff in Seneca's varsity history.|
For a collegiate coach, there is no greater honour than being told by one of your athletes that you've made a difference in their life. For former Seneca varsity women's volleyball coaches (and husband & wife tandem) Frank and Rozika Sulatycki - those words of thanks were a common occurrence for more than 20 years.
Tonight at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Frank and Rozika will be inducted into the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Hall of Fame. You can find a summary of their accomplishments below.
In 2011, Seneca College is proud to nominate former varsity women's volleyball coaches Frank and Rozika Sulatycki to the OCAA Hall of Fame. Coach 'Sula', as he was affectionately known, and his long-time assistant and wife, Rozi, represented Seneca with distinction for 20 years. Sulatycki was named an OCAA Coach of the Year a total of six times (1991, 1992, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2006), winning CCAA national coaching honours on two occasions (1992 and 1994). Coach 'Sula' and Rozi were staples of the Senecan community, contributing to college and student-life with an unrivaled commitment to excellence. As a coaching tandem, The Sulatyckis led Seneca to three CCAA National Championship Bronze Medals (1991, 1994 and 1995), four OCAA division titles (1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994) and seven consecutive OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship titles (1989-1996) including OCAA Bronze medals in 1977, 1999 and 2001. During their longstanding tenure with Seneca, The Sulatyckis' commitment to their college and their student-athletes was unquestioned as they oversaw the development of five CCAA All-Canadians from 1990 to 1996. Frank's noted sense of humour and Rozi's compassion were hallmarks of their unique coaching-style which saw them share whatever accolades they garnered - a testament to their knowledge of the game and the strength of their relationship together. With impeccable coaching credentials and an unparalleled track record of developing student-leaders, Coach 'Sula' and Rozi are worthy candidates for induction into the OCAA Hall of Fame in 2011.
Frank and Rozi's impact, commitment and leadership are particularly evident when one looks back at what their athletes and colleagues had to say about them upon their retirement in 2006.
"Over the past three years, I've learned a lot about volleyball and a lot about myself. I wanted to thank you for being an inspiration to me on and off the court. You've made me a better player and person. I wish you and Rosie the best. Happy Retirement. Thanks for the great years." - Josie Naccarato, Former Seneca Varsity Volleyball Athlete
"Volleyball is one of my top passions and having both of you as my coaches really made me realize how much more I love it. Thank you so much for helping me realize what I am capable of." - Hailey Tufts, Former Seneca Varsity Volleyball Athlete
"Frank and Rozi personify the perfect coaching duo: steadfast, patient, dedicated, caring and compassionate; and experts in their field.
